Hyperreality 2021

Hyperreality is the name of my collective work which includes a font, animation, publication and posters for my Body of Work exhibition in 2021 with Toi-Ohomai. This work is meant to discuss our relationship with technology, while also taking inspiration by Plato's and Baudrillard's understanding of hyperreality and illusions. My work is geometrically focused to discuss Platos love of geometry, and how this was the only thing that he considered to be 'real'.

Here is my animation which was inspired by Platos love of geometry, and understanding and questioning of illusion in a technology based outcome. This animation uses old computer based pop-up windows to create this connection with technology, as well as the use of binary code which has been translated from the English language, as well as more.

The binary in the back of this poster, when translated to English says "Everything is an illusion", furthermore questioning reality, and the technology reality which is growing.

This photo discusses the sensual nature of technology and the addiction that it creates with Western society, with a VHS distorted background.

Here is the publication that I made with this topic in mind. You may notice homepages are transparent, and this is to show a 3D effect with red and blue type. It also gives the viewer to see the pages backwards, which removes the optical illusions that type need to be successful. You will be able to notice the multitude of tech aspects for this work.
